The name Kirkpatrick is one that will be all too familiar to Steeleye Span fans, with accordion player John such a key part of the band’s success in the 1970s. That tradition is now set to continue, with John’s son Benji joining the band for their upcoming UK tour. An folk musician of great renown, Benji was a member of Bellowhead for ten years, helping steer the Oxford band to the level of media and commercial profile that Steeleye Span themselves had enjoyed – making a huge impact on the UK folk and roots scene and enjoying appearances on ‘Later… with Jools Holland’ as well as headline slots at many festivals. Benji has also played extensively with Seth Lakeman and has explored a number of other projects, including exploring the work of his first musical icon Jimi Hendrix and forming a folk power trio. Now he brings his considerable talents to a band that is in his blood.
